The Problem: Your Google Tags Are Losing Data
Your measurement stack depends on Google Tag Manager, GA4, Google Ads, and Floodlight tags firing accurately for every user on your website, but Ad blockers and tracking protection are increasingly blocking these technologies. The result is a growing gap between what your backend systems say happened and what Google’s products can see in Analytics and Ads. Headline performance looks acceptable but your measurement has been slowly drifting away from reality.
A Targeted Solution for Google Tags
Google Tag Gateway is essentially a first‑party proxy for Google Tag scripts. This proxy allows you to reference Google’s scripts from your own domain instead of Google’s own domains (googletagmanager.com, googleadservices.com, etc). Content and functionality of the scripts is identical since you are fetching the exact same code, it just appears that those scripts are being hosted on your own website instead of coming from Google.
This first-party proxy behavior circumvents many Ad blocker plugins and built-in browser tracking protection because those tools use domain based blocklists to disallow scripts. Since your website is not a known tracking domain, the script will look as though it is a functional script file that your website uses and will not be blocked.
For example, loading Google Tag Manager from it’s default https://www.googletagmanager.com/gtm.js will be blocked because of it’s associations with third-party tracking, whether or not that is your use case for it.
Proxying it from https://www.yoursite.com/metrics/ removes it from Google’s hosting ecosystem associated with those third-party tracking platforms, allowing you to capture your first party usage information.
Enabling Google Tag Gateway requires changes to your website hosting, so that certain requests to your domain go to fetch Google tool scripts instead of where they resolve to today. If you use Cloudflare, then setup could be as easy as following their In-UI wizard. In other cases, you may have to adjust your load balancer or webserver configuration to create these proxies manually. There are many supported ways to enable Google Tag Gateway and Google is adding new ways regularly.
BrainDo has experience implementing Google Tag Gateway using each of the supported methods and will help you decide what method is correct for your business, given your hosting architecture.
This work to enable Google Tag Gateway happens separately from your GTM containers, tracking code, and Google marketing tags. Those remain in place and do not need adjustments as the gateway is introduced and tested. Once the Google Tag Gateway is activated, all pre-existing google tags will use your first-party Google Tag Gateway proxy URL to fetch scripts and send pings to third parties.
BrainDo treats a Google Tag Gateway as a tailored architecture engagement, not a generic toggle.
We start by determining whether a gateway is actually the right decision for your stack and, if it is, how to design it around your hosting environment and CDN configuration, existing GA4 and Google Ads containers, and domain and DNS constraints.
Our goal is to design a gateway that fits cleanly into your current infrastructure, preserves existing tracking during the transition and produces measurable improvements in Google‑side data once live.
IT Collaboration:We provide the direct technical guidance and documentation your team needs to configure the backend proxy.
Gateway Deployment: Once the proxy routing is in place, we build and map the first‑party gateway configuration without interrupting existing tracking.
Audit & Validation: Deployment is followed by a post‑launch data audit to quantify signal recovery and verify that the new setup is working as intended.
Pricing for BrainDo Google Tag Gateway Architecture is calculated based on the physical and administrative scope of your organization.
Factors including the number of domains, existing container depth, event density, and required governance levels determine the final fixed price quote.
